OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Two new political parties are closer to being certified in Nebraska after both met the signature threshold required by the state.
Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen confirms the Nebraska Working People Party and the America First Party both gathered enough signatures to advance in the certification process. Adding, each effort reached at least 110% of the required number of signatures in each congressional district and overall.
Evnen's office explains, 'statutory requirements for valid signatures for the formation of a new political party' are:
Congressional District #1 – 2,262 signatures required
Congressional District #2 – 2,200 signatures required
Congressional District #3 – 2,266 signatures required
Total signatures required – 6,728
Representatives from the Nebraska Working People Party and the America First Party must now provide documents related to components like bylaws and officers. The deadline to submit those materials is Aug. 27. If obligations are met, Evnen would issue certifications after that deadline.
