OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Veterans Day is a time to give thanks and honor those who have served our country, and local businesses are doing their best to chip in.
- Metro Community College is hosting a Veterans Day celebration starting at 10:00 a.m. on its South Omaha campus. The celebration will feature keynote speaker Lieutenant Colonel Michael A. Ingram and a posting of the colors by the Omaha South Color Guard. A reception and tour of the new Veterans Center will follow the celebration. This event is free and open to the public.
- The Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum is offering free admission and lunch to all military Veterans, active and retired during its Veterans Day program. The public is invited to attend the program which begins at noon after the 11:30 lunch.
- Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium will offer free admission to all active military members, veterans, and their immediate families. The Zoo will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and exhibit buildings will close at 5:00 p.m.
- Hy-Vee is offering a free breakfast to all veterans and active-duty military members. In addition, veterans will also receive 10 percent off their grocery total when they shop at Hy-Vee today. Contact your Hy-Vee store for breakfast hours and event details.
- The Kolache Factory is offering a free breakfast to all veterans and those currently serving in the military. Veterans will get to pick from a kolache of their choice as well as a freshly brewed cup of coffee. This event runs from 6:00 a.m. through 2:00 p.m.
- The Siena Francis House will start their Veterans Day festivities at 4:00 p.m. with a flag ceremony at the shelter's flag pole at 1111 North 17th Street. Dinner will follow, where veterans will be recognized and honored with gift-filled backpacks. This event ends at 7:00 p.m.
