Toyota has announced the recall of 1.7 million Toyota and Lexus cars on Wednesday due to airbag issues.

According to USA Today , the airbag inflators could explode on deployment and send shrapnel at passengers. The airbags are part of ongoing issues with Takata, who supplied airbags to nearly every major automaker. Twenty-three people have died worldwide due to airbag inflator problems.

The affected Toyota and Lexus vehicles were manufactured between 2010 and 2017. Among Toyota models recalled are 4Runner, Corolla, Matrix and Sienna. Lexus models effected include ES 350, GX 460, IS 250C, IS 350C, IS 250, IS 350 and IS-F. The Scion XB is also included in the recall.

Car owners who are affected by the recall will be notified via mail in January. You can also click here to see if your car is covered under the recall.
