It was an old rivalry renewed, take two, at a cold TD Ameritrade Park on Wednesday night. After Tuesday night's contest against former Missouri Valley Conference foe, Wichita State, was postponed due to rain, Creighton picked up its 11th straight victory, dropping the Shockers, 4-3 in 10 innings.
The win in extra innings was the Bluejays third in the previous four games, as Bryce Only hit a grounder that Wichita State couldn't handle and Parker Upton crossed home for the winning run.
The Shockers struck first on Wednesday night, as Alex Jackson hit a two-RBI single to put Wichita State up 2-0 in the top of the second inning.
Now a 2-1 Shocker lead in the bottom of the fifth, Creighton took its first lead of the game when Michael Emodi ripped a liner down the line in left that scored both Jason Allbery and Thomas Leuvano.
After Wichita State tied the game at 3 in the top of the seventh, Only delivered with the bases loaded to give CU its 11th win in a row.
Creighton is now 19-16 overall this season and still 8-1 in Big East play. The Bluejays get back into their conference schedule this weekend, when Creighton hosts Xavier for a three-game series starting Friday night at 6:30 p.m. at TD Ameritrade Park.
