The Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Creighton's senior guard Marcus Foster is one of 30 players named candidates for the 2017 Naismith Player of the Year Award. The 10 semifinalists for the award will be announced March 1st.
Foster leads Creighton and is fourth in the BIG EAST in scoring at 18 points per game. The senior guard is on pace to become the highest average scorer by a Bluejay newcomer since 1969-70.
Foster joins two other BIG EAST players on the list, including Villanova's Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson. Should Foster win the award, it would give the Bluejays their second Naismith award in four years after Doug McDermott earned the award for his efforts during the 2013-14 season.
Creighton faces off against Depaul Saturday at 1 p.m. The game will be televised on Fox Sports 1. Here is a complete list of the candidates for the 2017 Naismith Player of the Year Award:
