No. 23 Creighton women's basketball fell to Marquette 72-65 in the BIG EAST semifinals Monday, March 6th.
Creighton took control in the first quarter after a tied game at 4-4, the Bluejays went on a 5-0 run to get a little separation. Creighton took its largest lead 5-8 with 3:13 to go in the first quarter. The Golden Eagles cut the Bluejays lead to 22-18 to end the first quarter.
Marquette stepped up its game in the second quarter outscoring Creighton 18-8. The Golden Eagles offense and defense shut down the Bluejays giving Marquette a 36-30 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, Creighton was able to get within one point of Marquette with a little over four minutes left. Despite buckets from Jaylyn Agnew and Audrey Faber the Bluejays never held the lead in the third quarter.
Entering the fourth quarter trailing 53-50 Creighton allowed Marquette a 10-0 run to start the fourth quarter. The Golden Eagles never allowed Creighton within five points for the remainder of the game.
Creighton's Sydney Lamberty recorded a career-high 26 points to lead the Bluejays.
The NCAA bracket is announced Monday, March 13th at 6 p.m.
