Huskers blow early double digit lead, lose at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (KMTV) — Nebraska gave up the go-ahead touchdown with 1:08 remaining, losing to Purdue on Saturday 31-27. David Bell scored on a nine yard run to give the Boilermakers the lead for good.

NU is now 4-5 on the season, 2-4 in the Big Ten while Purdue improved to 3-6 overall, 2-4 in the league.

The Huskers jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter. The Boilermakers answered with two touchdowns in the 2nd quarter to take a 14-10 lead at the half.

After trailing field goals in the 3rd quarter, NU took a 20-17 lead on an Adrian Martinez 2 yard touchdown run with 12:30 remaining. Purdue answered with a 7 yard touchdown run to put the Boilermakers back on top 24-20.

But the Big Red responded with a touchdown of its own, a four yard Adrian Martinez run to give Nebraska a 27-24 advantage with 4:21 remaining.

However, the Huskers defense failed when it needed to step up the most, allowing the game-winning score with 68 seconds remaining.
