Just days after an outstanding performance against No. 11 Wisconsin, Nebraska safety Nate Gerry has been named a semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award.

Gerry is one of 18 players named on the watch list. The Bednarik Award is presented to the Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year each season.

Gerry is one of three Big Ten players on the list, including Michigan linebacker Jabrill Peppers and Iowa cornerback Desmond King.

Gerry leads Nebraska in interceptions with four and is the second leading tackler on the team with 50. Gerry has 19 career tackles-for-loss, which is a record for Husker defensive backs. The 6'2, 220-pound safety has 249 career tackles, the second most for a Nebraska defensive back.

The three award finalists will be announced Nov. 22.
