UNO women's volleyball signs local talent for 2018-19 season

The UNO Mavericks volleyball team has announced its signing class for the 2018-19 season which includes some local talent.

Papillion La-Vista's Kenzie Michalek was one of UNO Head Coach Rose Shires' signees. Michalek has been a four-year letterwinner for the Monarchs, an AVCA Phenom honoree three straight years and was a Defensive Dandies honorable mention in 2017. She earned special mention for the 2016 Soph 79 List and was named to the 2015 Frosh 59.

"Kenzie is a very polished ball control player," Shires said. "She moves and reads well around the back court."

Fort Calhoun's Rylee Marshall also signed with the Mavericks. Marshall was a four-year letterwinner for the Pioneers. As a senior, Marshall posted 482 kills and 172 blocks, and for her career, she owns 1,458 kills and 628 stops at the net.

"Rylee is a huge force above the net," Shires said. "She will be a very powerful attacker and a skilled blocker for our program."

Grand Island's Alexa Blase rounds out the Nebraska talent in UNO's 2018-19 class. As a senior, Blase averaged 4.1 kills, 2.1 digs and 0.2 aces per set, and she owns 737 kills, 292 digs and 55 blocks over her career.

"Alexa is a strong outside hitter with a fast arm," Shires said. "She competes at a high level."

Other signees for the Mavs include Syndey Case (Lakeville, Minn.), Giselle Eiche (Wheat Ridge, Colo.), Sadie Limback (Waverly, MO), and Baylee Mittelstaedt (Farmington, Utah).
