OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Small businesses bore the brunt of the pandemic with roughly one in five closing for good. To help keep others from following suit, the Nebraska Business Development Center has compiled a portal of resources.

“The videos are short and sweet and to the point,” said Aretha Boex with the Nebraska Business Development Center.

Enlighten is a new virtual library — full of training videos — and it’s free for small business owners across Nebraska.

“Everything from legal models on how to select the right entity, information on how to read and understand leasing agreements,” she said, speaking about what Enlighten has to offer.

The Nebraska Business Development Center saw a growing need for the virtual resource when face-to-face learning was interrupted due to the pandemic. Now, it’s partnered with local agencies and experts to develop training on a variety of topics that are relevant to small business owners.

“We got funding through the CARES Act to help support businesses across the state, and we thought this was probably the best way to serve everyone,” said Boex.

Enlighten is nearly finished and will be up and running in the next few weeks.

“This gives us an opportunity to get beyond the limitations by making content that is always available whether the consultant is busy or not,” said Boex. “As long as you have the internet, you can access it.”

The Nebraska Business Development Center is hoping their virtual will live beyond the pandemic and continue to help entrepreneurs in the state.
