Kansas City won’t be the only place celebrating Red Friday ahead of the AFC Championship Game this weekend.

Whitehouse, Texas — the hometown of Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes — also will be encouraging people there to wear red on Friday.

In a social media post, the Whitehouse Independent School District said it was “so proud” of Mahomes, a 2014 Whitehouse High School graduate.

“Join us in supporting Patrick and the Chiefs by wearing KC colors this Friday, January 17th! Let’s go!” the district posted on Facebook.

The Whitehouse Area Chamber of Commerce also put out a call to support Mahomes and the Chiefs this weekend with a "Paint the Town Red and Gold" event.

"(W)e would love to have businesses join us in painting/decorating their business and wear your Chiefs shirts/jerseys," the chamber of commerce wrote on Facebook. "Mahomes will lead his team Sunday afternoon in Kansas City."

Mahomes has seen plenty of support from his hometown in the past. His high school football coach told 41 Action News last summer that a branch of Chiefs Kingdom now extends into the heart of East Texas.

“He’s taken this whole community of Whitehouse on this great little ol’ ride, you know,” Adam Cook said in August.
