Royals playing at TD Ameritrade Park tonight

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — The first ever Major League Baseball game will be played in Omaha tonight as the Kansas City Royals take on the Detroit Tigers at TD Ameritrade Park. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.

The Royals played here before the season started for an exhibition game against the Storm Chasers, their Triple-A Affiliate. The game will be a homecoming of sorts for the Royals' Alex Gordon, Jake Diekman, and Whit Merrifield, Gordon and Diekman are both from Nebraska and Merrifield played in both the College World Series, recording the last College World Series hit ever at Rosenblatt Stadium. He has also played for the Storm Chasers.

The game will be broadcast on ESPN and takes place one day before the College World Series opening ceremonies. Homer Bailey will pitch for the Royals (21-46) opposed by Matt Boyd for the Tigers (25-39). Boyd also pitched in the College World Series for the Oregon State Beavers.
