OFFUTT AFB, NE — Offutt has provided the following statement regarding the incident:
A suspicious package was detected in a commercial vehicle at approximately 8:45 a.m. today at the USSTRATCOM Gate 1 commercial vehicle search area.
The vehicle was going through a routine check before entering the base when a K-9 military working dog alerted personnel to the package.
The 55th Security Forces Squadron in conjunction with the Omaha Police Department investigated the situation and determined the package to not be a threat.
Update - 3 News Now Senior Reporter Jake Wasikowski tells us the gate is now open and the scene is clear.

Officials at Offutt Air Force Base are investigating a suspicious package found in a vehicle parked outside an entrance gate to the base.
The base sent out the following news release:
A suspicious package was detected in a vehicle approximately 8:45 a.m. today at the USSTRATCOM Gate 1.
The vehicle was going through a routine check in the prior to entering the base when a K-9 military working dog alerted personnel to the package.
The 55th Security Forces Squadron is working with the Omaha Police Department to investigate the incident.
Anyone entering or departing the base should use the Kenney Gate until further notice.
