It’s already December! Can you believe it?! November seemed to fly by and here we are at a whole new month. December is the start of meteorological winter which goes until the start of March, so happy winter! For everyone else, winter begins when the calendar says so, on Saturday, December 21st.

Aside from December 1st being cold and windy, the beginning of December actually looks mild. Temperatures this week stay at or above average with highs forecast to be near 40–50 degrees! Our overall weather looks quiet this week, too, with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies and mostly dry conditions. There are some changes on the horizon as a much stronger cold front moves south into the Heartland region by early next week.

During the month of December, Omaha typically measures just over six inches of snow at Eppley airfield and basically one inch of rain. The average high during the month is 35 degrees with an average low of 17 degrees. Chilly!

As for what the Climate Prediction Center is forecasting? Well, it’d be good news for our temperatures! They show a likelihood for warmer average temperatures for most of the country.

When it comes to precipitation, the CPC is showing wetter than average conditions for December for much of the west and northern half of the United States. This means we could be seeing more snow or rain, depending on just how warm those temperatures get throughout the month.
