We're Open Omaha: Pinot's Palette

Pinot's Palette in La Vista, a paint and sip studio, typically has public and private events in their studios. But due to COVID-19, they haven't been able to have customers paint in their studio for weeks.

"Right now our business has gone from having, I would say 400 people a month in here to having oh, 20-30 a week," said owner Sonja Kapoun-Roof

Kapoun-Roof says that's a bummer, not only for her business, but because it's a therapeutic activity many of us could use right now.

"The reason I got into the business is I actually found it to be quite a stress reliever, so you'd work at the office all day and instead of a ladies night at a bar, you do ladies night here. You can still have the wine, but you're also having a little bit of fun and relieve stress while you do it. We like to say it's not a class, it's a party so there's music and just a lot of interaction and having a good time," Kapoun-Roof said.

That party is now virtual. To stay in business, they offer take-home kits with all the instructions and all the supplies you need.

"So we have paintings where they are artists-led, but you have to log on to a Zoom link and step by step, you will be walked by the painting, still having a good times still communicating, but from the privacy of your own home," she said.

There are plenty of painting options to choose from.

"We're adding some to the collection every week," Kapoun-Roof said. "You go to our website and on the shopping tab, and you can pick out a painting. In addition, thanks to the different changes that have been made during the current environment, we can now actually do takeout alcohol as well. So if you want to get some paintings and a couple bottles of beer, or a couple bottles of wine, we can do that for you as well."

In two weeks, they adjusted to offer those kits by delivery or curbside pick.

"I wipe down the tables; we have the Lysol, we have disinfecting wipes - I was lucky to buy those before we ran out," Kapoun-Roof said. "We do have the phone numbers on the doors, so you are welcome to call, and I can bring it out the car, otherwise the kits are all in bags and like you said, still in plastic, and they are waiting at the tables so you don't have to have any contact with a person."

While you won't have any contact with someone at the studio, you can connect with others.

"There are different paintings with themes, so we had dinosaurs painted last Friday, and it was actually fun. We had a paleontologist on the virtual meeting so they actually had a little education while they were doing it."
