OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) – The Omaha Bagel Company is opening its first brick-and-mortar location near 55th and Leavenworth in Central Omaha.

Co-owner Hank Shields said what started as a hobby grew into a business through years of selling at local farmers markets.

"Bagels are all labor," Shields said.

Shields said the farmers markets played a key role in building the brand.

"That's where we kind of grew that really helped us grow the business," Shields said.

Once the team figured out how to make a quality bagel, Shields said the focus shifted to building the business around it.

"Once we figured out how to make a good bagel. Then we started to add the other elements of what it takes to build a business," Shields said.

The store will open Wednesdays through Fridays in the mornings. The company will continue selling at farmers markets on weekend mornings. The opening is scheduled for Wednesday near 55th and Leavenworth.
