MILLS COUNTY, Iowa (KMTV) — In 2019, many Mills County residents lost their homes and possessions during spring flooding and looked to a flood mitigationto help them recover. On Friday, the Mills County Emergency Management Agency provided an update on the buyout process.

The agency says the Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved its buyout application through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. This is the next step for people who applied for the buyout program last year.

In the coming weeks, applicants will be notified by the Mills County Auditor's Office about the program. Property owners can expect buyout purchase offers in the next 35-40 days.
