OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is currently closed to the public due to the coronavirus, but the zoo is offering video tours of the animal exhibits and encouraging supporters to continue donating to the non-profit.

"As a non-profit, the Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium exclusively relies on proceeds from community donations, membership sales and ticketed programs to support the Zoo’s animals and operations," the zoo said on Monday afternoon. "By putting your dollars into Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium now, you are helping guarantee the Zoo’s ability to care for thousands of species during this difficult time."

The zoo and aquarium are continuing the membership drive, offering a discounted rate through March 29. Renewal of memberships offers an addition 12 month of zoo access, while new members have a valid membership for a year after the purchase. Expiration dates will be extended for equivalent number of days the facilities are closed to the public.

"There is much planned at the Zoo, with Owen Sea Lion Shores opening in the fall and an ongoing schedule of education programs. In the meantime, the Zoo is providing many opportunities to stay connected with the public," the zoo said. "People are encouraged to visit the Zoo’s social media channels for content to educate and entertain, and opportunities to virtually visit the Zoo. "

The zoo said it will be releasing an interactive video highlighting its animal enrichment, behind-the-scenes experience and other education activities at 2 pm central time every day on its Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages. These videos, plus additional educational materials, will also be available on OmahaZoo.com/ZooFrom-Home.

If visitors would like to experience a customized virtual tour of the Zoo for a class or group coming together online, the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is also offering virtual field trips. These virtual field trips can bring the Zoo to you on your schedule, including information that is important to you and complements your goal.
